What Ho, Worldly Traveller! Welcome to Leauvalar (Loo-va-lar)!
No doubt that if you're here, its because you were invited to visit this lush and lavish realm, and perhaps even leave your mark upon it! Bully for you!
Leauvalar, in case you are not clear, is a D&D gameworld, primarily designed for the Labyrinth Lord retro-clone rules. Labyrinth Lord emulates the Mentzer Basic edition. It was further augmented with bits and pieces of Advanced Labyrinth Lord, and the Rules Cyclopedia (the culmination of the BECMI series). It is now further augmented with some character class tweaks suggested by Bruce Heard, the man formerly in charge of BECMI and Mystara, back when TSR owned D&D. And also some parts of Five Torches Deep and Dungeon Crawl Classics have been incorporated into this Frankenstein monster of a gaming system. There may be other games that I've unknowingly borrowed from. I get some procedures from YouTube videos, and I'm not always sure how the presenter came up with the rule.
Leauvalar (the game world) has a lot of original stuff by me, but some of you may notice a few things recycled from older games that I've DM'ed. Names, mostly, and a few concepts. But they are here because they have so much more potential than got used, and really add to the flavor of the environment.
This blog is meant to act as an Encyclopedia of Leauvalar. Think of it as the storehouse of knowledge kept in the Temple of Joss in the city of Mon Cardhris. By clicking on tags, you should be able to find information on whatever subject you are looking up. This could also be done with the list of previous blog posts, but they will be listed in order of when they were posted, while the tag list should be listed alphabetically, and therefore easier to navigate.
You will notice there are tabs to other pages, one goes more in depth about the Rules, with links to free PDFs, for those who want them. Also, there is a page about Roll20, with some tips and videos on how to get started on there, also for free!
Leauvalar is intended to be an old-school style world, that means it's supposed to be tough! Not all the encounters will be balanced for your group, and sometimes the only way to survive is to run away! Thanks to petty and fickle Gods, resurrections are expensive, and magic can be dangerous--even to the caster! And yes, some Traps and Poisons will be Save or die situations!
But there are many ancient mysteries to investigate, countless treasures to find, and a myriad of villains who need to be defeated before they spread more misery and pain.
So again, welcome to Leauvalar! Enjoy your stay! True, Death will be snapping at your heels, but gold and glory could be yours for the claiming...if you dare!
